About
My Background
I am a biologist, environmental scientist, and educator with over eight years of experience teaching and tutoring students in biology, environmental science, ecological data analysis, and R Programming. My work combines scientific expertise with a passion for helping students understand challenging concepts, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to succeed.
I have worked with learners from a wide range of backgrounds through private tutoring and established academic support organizations, including ArborBridge. These experiences have allowed me to support students with diverse goals, learning styles, and levels of preparation while developing a flexible, individualized approach to teaching and mentorship.
Education & Research
I hold an MS in Environmental Science & Ecology from SUNY Brockport, where I served as a graduate teaching assistant. I also hold BAs in Biology and English from Buffalo State, where I conducted research on novel ecosystems and received the David V. Bullough Outstanding Senior Award.
My research has focused on plant communities and ecological systems, including a funded project that conserved 20 acres of wetland on Lake Ontario.
Professional Experience
Alongside tutoring, I work in environmental consulting, where I manage data and reporting. Previously, I served as a Regional Assistant Biologist for New York State, gaining experience in field biology, ecological assessment, and environmental management.
These experiences allow me to bring real-world scientific applications into my work with students and clients.
Science, Communication, & Teaching
My background in both Biology and English allows me to approach science from multiple perspectives. I help students and professionals not only understand scientific concepts, but also communicate their ideas clearly through lab reports, research papers, proposals, and technical writing.
Beyond the Classroom
My interest in biology extends beyond the classroom. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my kids, searching for wild mushrooms, and collecting native wildflower seeds for my garden.
I enjoy sharing that curiosity with others and helping students see the connections between scientific concepts and the natural world around them.
